Decline causes progressive weakening and death of infected plants over time. You see gradual loss of vigor, branch dieback, and eventually plant death. Many organisms and factors can cause decline. Proper tree care, stress reduction, and sometimes removal are management options.
Use resistant or tolerant rootstocks. Remove infected trees from nurseries and young orchards. There is no reliable cure once a plant is infected. Remove and destroy affected plants to prevent spread. Avoid replanting susceptible species in the same location, as the pathogen can persist in soil.
