Woolly thyme is a mat-forming perennial from southern Europe with a spreading, horizontal habit. It produces tiny pale pink tubular flowers sporadically in summer and has soft, woolly foliage that creates a velvety texture.
Woolly thyme is hardy in zones 5a-8b and requires full sun with very dry, well-drained soil. It tolerates deer, drought, shallow rocky soils, and urban conditions with low maintenance. The plant spreads 1-3 ft and is useful as a groundcover in xeric gardens.
