Western trillium is a native perennial found from central California north through the Coast Ranges to Vancouver Island and southwestern British Columbia. It represents the most widespread and abundant trillium in western North America, with three white petals that age to pink or purple.

Western trillium grows in moist, shaded woodland conditions and prefers humus-rich soil. It is slow to establish and spreads gradually via rhizome offsets. The plant requires patience in cultivation and performs best in undisturbed forest floor conditions.
