Bumald spirea is a deciduous shrub reaching 2-3 feet tall with narrow leaves and flat clusters of pink to magenta flowers blooming mid- to late summer. The plant is a hybrid of unknown parentage but has been cultivated in Asia for centuries.

Bumald spirea is hardy to zones 4-9 and thrives in full sun to light shade with well-drained soil and moderate moisture. It is fast-growing and responds well to pruning; regular pruning maintains compact form and encourages heavy bloom. Multiple cultivars are available, selected for flower color and compact habit.
