Oregon myrtle (California bay, California-laurel) is a native broadleaf of the Pacific Coast reaching 25-30 ft with a rounded form and medium growth. It produces white flowers and has distinctive aromatic foliage that can cause headaches and sneezing when crushed.

Oregon myrtle is hardy in zones 7a-8b and adapts to full sun through shade with moist soil (pH 4.5-7.0) and moderate moisture. The foliage produces a volatile oil that irritates sensitive skin and respiratory passages. Anthracnose is a documented disease threat in managed landscapes.
