Compact, slow-growing deciduous shrub to 6 feet with urn-shaped, snowy white flowers in drooping clusters blooming in April to early May. Young shoots are shiny red; serrate leaves turn shades of red in autumn.

Requires acidic, moist, organically rich, peaty soil with good drainage; blooms on previous year's growth, so prune immediately after flowering. Excellent paired with rhododendrons; ideal for small gardens, specimen plantings, or shrub borders.
