Argentine needle grass, also called Mexican feather grass or finestem needlegrass, is a delicate, finely-textured bunchgrass native to South America. Growing 12-18 inches tall, it produces narrow, hair-like leaves and feathery, fine panicles that wave in the slightest breeze.

Argentine needle grass is extremely drought-tolerant and thrives in full sun with well-drained, sandy soil and minimal moisture once established. Hardy to zones 7-10, it is short-lived (4-5 years) but self-seeds readily in appropriate conditions. The plant is valued for its ethereal texture and fine, dancing seed heads.
