Pinus leucodermis

Pinaceae · coniferous tree · introduced

Last updated

Pinus heldreichii (Pinaceae), sometimes listed as P. leucodermis, is a two-needled pine native to the mountains of the Balkans and southern Italy. It grows to about 70 feet tall with a compact, pyramidal form. The bark on young trees is smooth and pale gray, developing a distinctive snakeskin-like pattern with age.

Bosnian pine is one of the most adaptable and trouble-free landscape pines. It tolerates limestone soils, drought, urban conditions, and a wide range of sites. It grows in full sun at a moderate rate. Few disease or pest problems are documented compared to other pine species. Hardy in Zones 6a to 8b.
