Taiwan Rhododendron

Rhododendron pseudochrysanthemum

Ericaceae · broadleaf evergreen shrub · introduced

Last updated

A broadleaf evergreen shrub endemic to high elevations (2,800 to 3,800 m) in the central mountain range of Taiwan. Flowers are pink. The species is compact and slow-growing in cultivation, with thick, leathery leaves that have a distinctive woolly indumentum beneath.

Requires acidic, well-drained soil in a cool, sheltered position. The Taiwanese alpine origin makes it intolerant of heat and humidity. Valued by collectors for its dense habit and attractive indumentum. All parts are toxic if ingested.
