An evergreen shrub native to Sichuan and Yunnan, China, at elevations of 6,500 to 11,500 feet, reaching 6 feet. Widely funnel-shaped flowers vary from white blushed pink to pale rose or purplish-pink, sometimes spotted with red.

Flower color is variable among seed-grown plants, ranging from near-white to strong pink. Acidic, well-drained soil. Twenty-one diseases and 15 pests documented at the genus level. All parts contain grayanotoxins and are toxic if ingested.
