A compact evergreen shrub native to western Sichuan, China, reaching 3 feet. Widely bell-shaped flowers. Named for the distinctive orbicular (nearly circular) leaves.

The round leaf shape is unique among cultivated rhododendrons and provides year-round visual interest. Acidic, well-drained soil. Twenty-one diseases and 15 pests documented at the genus level. All parts contain grayanotoxins and are toxic if ingested.
