A broadleaf evergreen dwarf shrub reaching only 18 to 24 inches in 10 years, with rounded, bright green leaves. Flowers are blood red, bell-shaped, waxy, and pendant. OSU rates flower quality 3, plant and foliage 4, and performance 3 to 4 on a 1-5 scale. Hardy to -5F.

Full sun to part shade on acidic, well-drained soil. The compact size and pendant, waxy flowers make this an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, and small-space plantings. Twenty-one diseases and 15 pests documented at the genus level. All parts are toxic if ingested.
