Racemosum Rhododendron

Rhododendron racemosum

Ericaceae · broadleaf evergreen shrub · introduced

Last updated

An evergreen shrub native to Yunnan and Sichuan, China, ranging from 2 to 5 feet. Small funnel-shaped flowers, under 1 inch across, in shades of pink to white, produced along the stems (in the leaf axils) as well as at the branch tips.

The axillary flowering habit, with blooms produced along the stems rather than just at the tips, gives this species a different visual effect from most rhododendrons. Acidic, well-drained soil. Twenty-one diseases and 15 pests documented at the genus level. All parts contain grayanotoxins and are toxic if ingested.
