Last updated

A broadleaf deciduous shrub in the Ericaceae, R. stenopetalum is a Japanese species known for its narrow, strap-shaped flower petals that give it a distinctive, spider-like appearance. Blooms on previous season's growth.

Requires acidic, well-drained soil. The unusual narrow-petaled flowers make this a conversation piece in the garden, distinct from the rounded trusses of typical rhododendrons. Twenty-one diseases and 15 pests documented at the genus level. All parts are toxic if ingested.
