A compact broadleaf evergreen shrub reaching 3 ft, with narrow, pointed, dark green leaves carrying thin pale pubescence beneath. Flowers are rosy moderate-red, funnel-shaped, about 6 cm across, carried in loose trusses.

Full sun to part shade on acidic, well-drained soil. Compact habit. Twenty-one diseases and 15 pests documented at the genus level. All parts contain grayanotoxins and are toxic if ingested.
