Bud failure results in sparse or absent growth from affected buds on susceptible hosts. You see bare sections on branches where buds have failed to develop and open. Cold injury, disease, or physiological stress causes this condition. Prune out dead wood and provide proper care to encourage new growth.

Start with cultural controls: remove infected tissue, improve drainage and air circulation, and keep foliage dry when possible. Bud Failure responds best to early intervention, so scout regularly during the growing season and act at the first sign of symptoms. Chemical controls exist for severe cases but work best as preventive treatments before infection takes hold.
